PM inaugurates two 4-lane highways
Ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr Prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday opened two major expanded highways linking the capital with port city of Chittagong and Mymensingh.
She opened the two four-lane highways pressing buttons at a ceremony at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre at 11am.
The government in 2006 had approved the Dhaka-Chittagong four-lane project to expand the crucial highway from Daudkandi toll plaza to Chittagong city gate involving Tk 2,168 crore.
On the other hand, the four-lane upgrading of 87-km highway from Mymensingh to Joydevpur will facilitate quicker transportation of agricultural and industrial products from Mymensingh division and Gazipur district to the capital.
Under the Joydevpur-Mymensingh four-lane project, 155 culverts, five new bridges, one flyover, one rail overpass and four steel-made foot over bridges have been constructed.
