3km long tailback at Paturia ghat
Hundreds of trucks, buses and small vehicles were seen lined up on the highway to a three-kilometre tailback at Paturia ferry terminal.
Thousands of passengers, who are on the way to home to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitre, suffer immensely due to the traffic jam, reports our local correspondent.
The authority has decided to suspend plying of trucks at the area from 2:00pm, said Sheikh Muhammad Nasim, deputy general manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Aricha.
To keep the ferry service normal, a RoRo ferry, Bhasha Shahid Barkat, was brought on Paturia Daulatdia ferry route this morning.
A total of 18 ferries including 10 RoRo ferries, 5 utility ferries, and 3 K-type ferries, are now in operation on the Paturia-Daulatdia route, he added.
