Ex-DUCSU leader Akhter secures bail

Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) former social welfare secretary Akhter Hossain has secured bail in a case filed for allegedly committing subversive acts.

The High Court bench of Justice Mostafa Zaman Islam and Justice K M Zahid Sorwar granted bail to him.

Earlier, the case was lodged against Akhter, also president of Chhatra Odhikar Parishad's Dhaka University unit, with Shahbagh Police Station over a scuffle with police in front of Jatiya Press Club on March 27.

In the lawsuit, he was accused of attacking, beating police, and attempting to kill them.

Later, he was arrested in front of the DU Law faculty in the case. On May 5, a lower court in Dhaka rejected his bail plea. 

Akhter's lawyer Muhammad Shishir Monir said his client won't get release from jail now as he has another case.
