Covid-19: Highest deaths in 7 weeks
The government on Sunday recorded 82 more deaths from coronavirus, the highest daily record of fatalities in the last seven weeks, taking the tally to 13,548.
Earlier on April 29, it reported 88 COVID-19 deaths in a day.
In the past day, 3,641 more people were diagnosed with the virus, raising the total infection to 8,51,668, the health directorate said in a press release.
Of the total patients, 7,82,655 recovered, with 2,509 made recovery in the last 24 hours.
The daily count came from a test of 22,231 samples in the past day.
Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8 last year. Since then the country has been struggling to limit the spread of the highly contagious virus.
Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year and then spread to newer countries and territories.
To date, the epidemic infected 179,032,562 people and killed 3,877,114 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website that compiles the number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.
However, the total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 163,558,888 across the world.
