Govt decides to ban battery-run rickshaws

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Sunday said that the government has decided to ban the battery-run rickshaws and bans across the country.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Task Force formed to strengthen discipline in roads and reduce accidents, he told reporters after the meeting held at the Secretariat today.

"We've noticed that rickshaws and vans were being run across the country installing the motor in these which have a break in front-wheel but have not in back one that causes overturn with passengers. In today's meeting, a decision has been taken to ban these," he said.

The Minister said the human haulers, locally known as Easy-bike, Nosimon, Korimon, and Bhotbhoti, would also be banned gradually.
