NSTU official held for 'derogatory comments' on Obaidul Quader

Police have detained an official at Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) for allegedly making derogatory comments on Awami League General Secretary, and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader.

Detained Ziaur Rahman Samrat, 32, is an assistant director of the Planning Development and Works office at the university, and resident of North Lamchhi village in Kabirhat upazila of Noakhali district.

Kabirhat Police Station officer in-charge Tomas Barua said Samrat has been brought into their custody to question him as a complaint of making derogatory remarks on Obaidul Quader in Facebook was filed against him with the police station.

Kabirhat Upazila Parishad vice chairman and the upazila Juba League general secretary Md Nazrul Islam lodged the complaint on Friday evening, he said.

Before being held, Samrat had said he did not post the status which appeared in his timeline, and he verbally informed the OC about the matter.
