Covid-19: Highest deaths in 48 days
The government on Saturday recorded 67 more deaths from coronavirus, the highest fatalities in a single day in the last 48 days, taking the tally to 13,466.
Earlier on May 2, it reported 69 COVID-19 deaths in a day.
In the past day, 3,057 more people were diagnosed with the virus, raising the total infection to 8,48,027, the health directorate said in a press release.
The daily count came from a test of 16,964 samples in the past day.
Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8 last year. Since then the country has been struggling to limit the spread of the highly contagious virus.
Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year and then spread to newer countries and territories.
To date, the epidemic infected 178,657,875 people and killed 3,868,321 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website that compiles the number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.
However, the total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 163,175,793 across the world.
