16 more Birangana get status of freedom fighter

Sixteen more Birangana (war heroines) have been recognized as freedom fighters for their contribution and sacrifice during the Liberation War in 1971.

The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has recently issued a gazette notification, recognizing the victims of Pakistani atrocities.

They are Gulbahar Begum of Sunamganj; Azufa Begum of Madaripur; Anwara Begum and Rumia Khatun of Brahmanbaria; Billo Basini and Shefali Sikder of Pirojpur; Hosne Ara Begum of Chattogram; Zahera Khatun of Narsingdi; Moirom Nesa, Hazera Begum and Priti Rani Dutta of Moulvibazar; and Fatema Begum, Begna Begum and Maleka Begum of Rangpur; Shova Parvin of Noakhali; and Setara Begum of Bagerhat.
