ASI killed as 'drugs-laden' microbus hits him

A police official was killed in Chattogram city early Friday as a microbus of reckless speed police claimed it was carrying drugs hit him.

Deceased Kazi Salah Uddin, 38, was an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) at Chandgaon Police Station in the city. He hailed from South Joypur area in Sadar upazila of Lakshmipur district.

Confirming the matter to Jago News, the police station sub-inspector (SI) Md Amir Hossain said on information that a microbus was carrying drugs, ASI Salah Uddin signaled the vehicle to stop at Kaptai Rastar Matha area around 4:30am. 

Instead of stopping, the microbus hit on-duty police members, leaving Salah Uddin dead on the spot and another cop Md Masum, 26, injured, he said.

The injured was admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), Amir added.

However, police seized the vehicle but could not nab anyone in this connection.
