Gallantry awards of 4 Mujib killers withdrawn

The government has withdrawn the gallantry awards of four self-claimed killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members.

The Liberation War Affairs Ministry issued a circular in this regard on Sunday.

The self-confessed killers of Bangabandhu are - SHBM Noor Chowdhury, Shariful Haque Dalim, Rashed Chowdhury, and Muslem Uddin Khan. All of them are condemned in Mujib murder case and now in hiding.

Retired lieutenant colonel Dalim was decorated as Bir Uttam, the second highest gallantry award of Bangladesh, while retired lieutenant colonel Nur was decorated with Bir Bikram award. Retired lieutenant colonel Rashed and Moslem Uddin got Bir Pratik awards.

In 1973, the then government of Bangladesh awarded Bir Sreshtho title to seven, Bir Uttom to 68, Bir Bikrom to 175, and Bir Protik to 426.

The High Court on December 15 last year suspended the freedom fighter gallantry awards of the four fugitive killers.
