34 more Covid-19 deaths reported in 24hrs

Some 34 more people died from coronavirus in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 12,694.

During the period, 1,988 more people were diagnosed with the virus, raising the total infection to 8,04,293, the health directorate said in a press release on Wednesday.

Of the total patients, 7,44,065 recovered, with 1,914 made recovery in the last 24 hours.

The daily count came from a test of 20,259 samples in the past day.

Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8 last year. Since then the country has been struggling to limit the spread of the highly contagious virus.

Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year and then spread to newer countries and territories.

To date, the epidemic infected 171,965,446 people and killed 3,576,887 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website that compiles the number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, the total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 154,479,061 across the world.
