Gang-rape on moving bus: Five remanded
A court in Dhaka on Saturday put five people on a three-day remand in a case filed for allegedly gang-raping a young woman on a moving bus in Ashulia on the outskirt of the capital Dhaka.
Dhaka's Senior Judicial Magistrate Shahzadi Tahmida gave the order after police produced six accused of the case before the court, seeking a five-day remand in custody.
The court recorded the statement of the rest accused as he voluntarily agreed to give his confessional statement, confirmed Dhaka district police's court inspector Mesbah Uddin.
The six accused are Md Aryan, 18, resident of Gulbag Indrapur Bhasaman village under Turag Police Station in Dhaka; Sazu, 20, of Taraguna area in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia; Suman, 24, and Shohag, 25, of Khatiyamari area in Dhunat upazila, and Saiful Islam, 40, of Zianagar village in Dupchaciya upazila of Bogura; and Monwar, 24, of Dhamghar area under Bandar Police Station in Narayanganj. They all live in Kamarpara Bhasaman area under Turag Police Station and drive minibus on the Abdullahpur-Baypail-Nabinagar highway.
The case statement said the six accused first dropped all the passengers except the victim and then gang-raped her on a running bus of 'New Grambangla Paribahan' after 8pm on Friday when she was returning home in Narayanganj from her sister's home in Manikganj.
Later, a team of patrol police rescued the woman stopping the bus and detained the accused.
On Saturday morning, the victim lodged a case with a police station in this connection.
Hailes from Lalmonirhat, the young woman, however, along with her husband and children lives in Narayanganj and working at a garment factory.
