Airtel officials among 22 arrested for selling fake SIM

Police have arrested 22 people including Airtel telecom officials from the capital as they were involving with selling biometric-registered SIM illegally.

Police attested them in a drive at city’s Tajgoan area on Tuesday night.

Biplob Kumar Sarkar, Deputy Commissioner of Tejgaon Region of Police said a team of police conducted drives in city’s Farmgate, Karwanbazar, Indira Road as Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission and Airtel have complained that few Airtel officials along with others were involving in selling Airtel SIMs which were pre-activated and already biometric-registered to customers.

During the drives police also recovered 100000 biometric-registered SIMs from their possession.
