Police have arrested Hefazat-e-Islam's defunct central committee law affairs secretary and former Sunamganj-3 MP Mawlana Shahinur Pasha Chowdhury from Sylhet city.
A team of police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) from Dhaka nabbed him from Bankalapara area around 12:45am on Thursday,
Declining to be named, a police official of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) confirmed the arrest.
Police sources said Shahinur is an accused in different cases, including one filed over 2013 violence at Shapla Chattar in the capital's Motijheel area.
