Coronavirus: New deaths 50, cases 1742

Some 50 more people died from coronavirus in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 11,755.

During the period, 1,742 more people were diagnosed with the virus, raising the total infection to 7,67,338, the health directorate said in a press release on Wednesday.

Of the total patients, 6,98,465 recovered, with 3,433 made recovery in the last 24 hours.

The daily count came from a test of 20,284 samples in the past day.

Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8 last year. Since then the country has been struggling to limit the spread of the highly contagious virus.

Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year and then spread to newer countries and territories.

To date, the epidemic infected 155,039,911 people and killed 3,242,941 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website that compiles the number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, the total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 132,534,233 across the world.
