Owners seek resumption of transport services

Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association demanded the government allow them to operate their vehicles following the health guidelines issued to limit the coronavirus spread.

The organization president Moshiur Rahman Ranga, and secretary general Khandaker Enayet Ullah made the demand in a statement sent to the media on Friday afternoon.

Earlier this morning, Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation made the same demand.

They also threatened to hold demonstration processions on May 2, and sit-in programme in front of the deputy commissioners' offices on May 4 across the country if their demands are not met.

The government imposed a strict lockdown for eight days from April 14 to 21 in a bid to prevent the virus outbreak. Then, it was extended to April 28 and lastly to May 5.

At one stage of the restrictions, shopping malls and markets were opened, and banks allowed to continue services but all public and private offices, and public transport services still remained shut.
