'Shishu Bokta' Rafiqul put on fresh 4-day remand
Rafiqul Islam Madani, popularly known as Shishu Bokta (child preacher), has been placed on a fresh four-day remand in a case filed with Motijheel Police Station, Dhaka.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sufian Mohammad Noman passed the order on Wednesday after police had produced him before the court, seeking 10-remand in custody.
A demonstration procession under the banner of Bangladesh Chhatra, and Juba Adhikar Parishad was brought out at Shapla Chattar in the capital's Motijheel on March 25, protesting the visit of the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bangladesh.
At one stage, the demonstrators clashed with the police as the latter obstructed them. During this, the cops lobbed tear gas shells and sound grenade, and the protesters also hurled brickbats towards the law enforcers.
Police, however, detained Rafiqul Islam Madani during the clash but hours after they released him.
On March 26, police lodged a case with Motijheel Police Station in this connection.
Earlier on April 8, the child speaker was detained from his home in Netrakona district for allegedly making provocative and anti-state speeches, and later, named in a case lodged with Gachha Police Station, Gazipur under the Digital Security Act (DSA).
In the lawsuit, a court in the district placed him on a two-day remand in custody.
