Covid-19: Govt records highest single-day deaths

Bangladesh government on Sunday reported 102 coronavirus deaths, the highest record of fatalities in a day.

In the last 24 hours, it also reported 3,398 cases, the health directorate said in a press release today.

With this, the country's total deaths and infections stood at 10,385 and 7,18,650 respectively to date.

Of the total patients, 6,14,936 recovered, with 6,121 made recovery in the last 24 hours.

The daily count came from test of 19,404 samples in the past day.

Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8 last year. Since then the country has been struggling to limit the spread of the highly contagious virus.

Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year and then spread to newer countries and territories.

To date, the epidemic infected 141,405,245 people and killed 3,026,315 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website that compiles the number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, the total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 120,098,101 across the world.
