Hefazat leader Jubayer remanded

A court in Dahak on Saturday placed Hefazat-e-Islam's Dhaka city unit vice president Mawlana Jubayer Ahmed on a five-day remand in a case filed over the violence at Shapla Chattar in the capital's Motijheel on May 5, 2013.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jashim passed the order after police produced him before the court, seeking 10-day remand in custody.

Earlier on Friday evening, a team of the detective branch of police (Lalbagh division) arrested him from Lalbagh area in the case filed with Paltan Police Station in 2013.

The case statement said the leaders and activists of Hefazat-e-Islam during the organization's Dhaka siege on May 5, 2013, carried out vandalism and arson attacks on the vehicles, and public-private facilities in Motijheel, Paltan, Arambagh, and adjacent areas.
