5 killed in police-workers clash in Ctg

At least five people were killed and 30 others injured after the workers clashed with police at a power plant under Gondamara area in Banshkhali of Chattogram around 12:30 pm on Saturday.

Of the deceased, four were identified as Shubha, 23, Ahmed Reza, 19, Md Rahat, 24 and Roni Hossen, 22.

Azizul Islam, Inspector (investigation) of Banshkhali Police Station, confirmed the matter to Jago News.

According to the local people, the workers started demonstration programme over their wages and allowances in today’s morning. To control the situation, the authorities of the power plant informed the matter to police. Later, the police locked into clash with the workers. At that time, some workers were injured after police opened fire at them. The injured were sent to Banshkhali Upazila Health Complex and Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where the doctors declared five of them dead.

“The number of the deceased might be increased,” said Shilbrata Barua, Assistant Sub Inspector of CMCH police outpost.
