PM pays homage to Bangabandhu on Mujibnagar Day
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has paid tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the occasion of historic Mujibnagar Day.
On behalf of the premier, Awami League General Secretary and also Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader placed a wreath at the portrait of the Father of the Nation in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi in the capital.
Awami League presidium member Matia Chowdhury, its joint general secretaries Dr Hasan Mahmud, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Afzal Hossen, organizing secretaries Ahmed Hossen, BM Mozammel Haque, Mirza Azam and Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel were present during this time.
On this day in 1971, Bangladesh’s first government in exile was formed at Baidyanathtala mango grove in Meherpur - then under Kushtia district.
The place was later renamed as Mujibnagar showing respect to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who had been declared the president of the government in exile.
The successful leadership of the Mujibnagar government steered the Liberation War to victory on December 16, 1971.
