Coronavirus: Bangladesh records over 100 deaths in a day
For the first time since coronavirus outbroke in Bangladesh, the country on Friday recorded more than 100 deaths from the virus in a day.
In the last 24 hours, it reported 101 fresh deaths, hitting the highest single-day rise in the fatalities.
Earlier on Wednesday (April 14), the country recorded 96 more people's deaths from the virus, the second highest number of deaths in a day.
In the past day, 4,417 people contracted the highly contagious disease, the health directorate said in a press release today.
With this, the country's total deaths and infections stood at 10,182 and 7,11,779 respectively till date.
Of the total patients, 6,02,908 recovered, with 5,694 made recovery in the last 24 hours.
The daily count came from test of 18,707 samples in the past day.
Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8 last year. Since then the country has been struggling to limit spread of the highly contagious virus.
Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to newer countries and territories.
Till date, the epidemic infected 139,809,238 people and killed 3,002,312 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.
However, total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 118,836,222 across the world.
