A court in Dhaka on Friday sent Hefazat-e-Islam's Assistant Publicity Secretary Mufti Sharifullah to jail in a case filed with Jatrabari Police Station in the capital in 2013.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Yeasmin Ara passed the order after hearing a bail petition.

Earlier on Wednesday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sayeed put him on one-day remand in the same case.

A team of the detective branch of police (Wari division) arrested Sharifullah from Mir Hazirbagh area of Jatrabari on Tuesday evening.

The case statement said the Hefazat-e-Islam leaders and activists torched a pickup van of police near Jatrabari Police Station and hurled brickbats towards the cops on the following day of the organization's Dhaka siege programme on May 5, 2013.

Accused Sharifullah and 400/500 others took part in the attack, according to the statement.
