Sixty nine more people died from coronavirus in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 9,891.

During the period, 6,028 more people were diagnosed with the virus, raising the total infection to 6,97,985, the health directorate said in a press release on Tuesday.

Of the total patients, 5,85,966 recovered, with 4,853 made recovery in the last 24 hours.

The daily count came from test of 32,955 samples in the past day.

Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8 last year. Since then the country has been struggling to limit spread of the highly contagious virus.

Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to newer countries and territories.

Till date, the epidemic infected 137,373,128 people and killed 2,961,771 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 110,550,765 across the world.
