Coronavirus: Highest 74 deaths reported in a day

Bangladesh government on Thursday reported 74 coronavirus deaths, the highest number of fatalities in a day.

In the last 24 hours, it also reported 6,854 cases, the health directorate said in a press release today.

With this, the country's total deaths and infections stood at 9,521 and 6,66,132 respectively till date.

Of the total patients, 5,65,030 recovered, with 3,391 made recovery in the last 24 hours.

The daily count came from test of 33,193 samples in the past day.

Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8 last year. Since then it has been struggling to curb spread of the highly contagious virus.

Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then its outbreak was seen across the world.

However, the epidemic infected 133,830,949 people and killed 2,904,226 across the globe till date, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles coronavirus cases and deaths. 

Total number of people who recovered from the deadly virus reached 107,912,891 across the world.
