City bus services to resume on Wednesday
The bus services in Dhaka and other city corporation areas will resume on Wednesday, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said on Tuesday.
The public transport services in the areas will be available from 6am to 6pm, the Minister said in a video statement from his official residence in the capital.
No buses can, however, go outside or enter the the cities, he added.
The decision came when the commuters, specially the office-goers, suffered immensly for the second day of ongoing lockdown due to the closure of public transports.
Earlier on Sunday, the government imposed countrywide lockdown for one week from Monday to April 11 with a view to preventing the spread of the novel coronavirus.
As many as 66 coronavirus deaths and 7,213 cases were reported in the last 24 hours, hitting the highest records of fatalities and infections in a day.
With this, the country's total deaths and cases stood at 9,384 and 6,51,652 respectively, the health directorate said in a press release on Tuesday.
Earlier on June 30 last year, and April 4, the government reported highest 64 coronavirus deaths, and 7,087 cases respectively.
Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8 last year. Since then it has been struggling to curb spread of the highly contagious virus.
