The public transport services will remain closed from Monday as the government is going to impose countrywide lockdown for one week from the day, considering the alarming rise of coronavirus infections.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader came up with the disclosure in a video message from his official residence in the capital on Sunday.

Bangladesh government on Friday (April 2) reported the highest daily record of 6,830 coronavirus cases.

As of Saturday (April 3), the country's total infections and deaths stood respectively at 6,30,277 and 9,213. 

Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8 last year. Since then it has been struggling to curb spread of the highly contagious virus.
