Coronavirus: Highest 6,830 cases in a day

Bangladesh government on Friday reported 6,830 more coronavirus cases, the highest number of infections in a day, bringing the total number to 6,24,594.

The second highest record of daily infections was 6,469 and the third 5,358 reported respectively on April 1 and March 31.

In the last 24 hours, 50 new deaths from the virus were recorded. With this, the country's coronavirus death tally stood at 9,155.

The health directorate made the disclosure in a press release today.

Of the total patients, 5,47,411 recovered, with 2,473 made recovery in the last 24 hours.

The daily count came from test of 29,339 samples in the past day. With this, a total of 47,28,113 samples have, so far, been tested.

Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8 last year. Since then it has been struggling to curb spread of the highly contagious virus.

Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then its outbreak was seen across the world.

However, the epidemic infected 130,313,439 people and killed 2,842,610 across the globe till date, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles coronavirus cases and deaths. 

Total number of people who recovered from the deadly virus reached 104,996,288 across the world.
