Moulvibazar-2 lawmaker Sultan Mansur has tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by novel coronavirus.

"He (Sultan Mansur) has been suffering from fever and headache for the last couple of days. So, he gave his sample for coronavirus test at a hospital in the capital on Friday that came out positive," his cousin Shafiqul Islam Zayed said.

Now the MP is in isolation at his home in Dhaka, and he urged the country people to keep him in their prayers, Zayed added.

As a candidate of Gono Forum, Sultan Mansur was elected Moulvibazar-2 MP in the 11th general election held in December 2018 but the party expelled him for taking oath as an MP in 2019 for defying the party decision.

The party along with BNP and some other parties joined the election under the banner of Jatiya Oikyafront.

The alliance, however, rejected the election results bringing the allegation of vote robbery, and decided not to join the parliament.

The former organising secretary of Bangladesh Awami League, Sultan Mansur was the president of Bangladesh Chhatra League from 1985 to 1988, and vice president of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU).
