A student of Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) has been arrested for allegedly making derogatory comments on the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Arrested Sourav Chowdhury, 24, is the final year student of Civil Engineering department.

In a drive, a team of 20/30 police members nabbed Sourav from a house at North Nalapara area in Chattogram city around 4am on Sunday, said Md Anwar Hossain Shameem, assistant superintendent of police (Raozan-Rangunia circle).

It was learned that Sourav in a Facebook post on Friday allegedly made disparaging comments on the Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH).

Other CUET students demanded his expulsion and legal action against him after a screenshot containing his 'disrespectful remarks on Prophet' went viral from a group named CUET ADDA BAAZ.

Later, police filed a case against him with Raozan Police Station on Saturday under the Digital Security Act (DSA) on charge of making religious provocative and anti-state comments, ASP Shameem said.
