Covid-19 in Bangladesh: New deaths 26, cases 1868

Twenty six more people died from coronavirus in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 8,668.

During the period, 1,868 more people were diagnosed with the virus, raising the total infection to 5,68,706, the Directorate General of Health Services said in a press release on Saturday.

Of the total patients, 5,20,718 recovered, with 1,577 made recovery in the last 24 hours.

The daily count came from test of 19,900 samples in the past day. With this, a total of 43,88,011 samples have, so far, been tested.

Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8. Since then the country has been struggling to limit spread of the highly contagious virus.

Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to newer countries and territories.

Till date, the epidemic infected 123,005,025 people and killed 2,715,392 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 99,133,302 across the world.
