Basurhat clash: Ex-UP chairman Badal sent to jail

A court in Noakhali on Friday sent former Companiganj Upazila Parishad chairman Mizanur Rahman Badal to jail in a case filed over the attack on police during a clash between rival groups. 

Noakhali Judicial Court judge Soyeb Uddin Khan passed the order, rejecting his bail plea.

The court also denied bail to him, also the upazila Awami League organizing secretary, in three other cases. 

Hossain Ahmed, officer in-charge of police's Detective Branch, Noakhali said Badal was arrested on Thursday afternoon in a case filed for allegedly committing subversive acts. 

Additional superintendent of the district police Dipak Jyoti Khisa said Badal has been showed arrested in a case lodged over the attack on police at Chaprashirhat East Bazaar and today the court ordered to send him to jail.

On Tuesday night, a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver named Alauddin was killed during a clash among the supporters of  two rival groups of Basurhat municipal mayor Quader Mirza, and Badal at Chaprashirhat East Bazaar. 

Earlier on February 19, journalist Borhan Uddin Muzakkir, 30, of online news portal Barta Bazar, succumbed to his injuries after he had received bullet injuries during a clash between the same two rival groups.
