28 detained over clash in Noakhali’s Basurhat

Police have detained 28 people in connection with the factional clash between two groups of local Awami League (AL) that killed one person at Basurhat in Companyganj upazila of Noakhali.

The law enforcement agency in separate drives detained them from different parts of the upazila on Tuesday midnight.

Meer Jahedul Haque Rony, Officer-in-charge of Companyganj Police Station, said confirmed the matter to Jago News. 

“The situation is now under control. Police are on alert to avert any untoward situation,” the OC said.

However, the local administration has imposed section 144 in Basurhat municipality. The Section 144 will remain in force from 6am to 12pm on Wednesday.

To be noted, one named Alauddin was killed in a clash between the supporters of Basurhat municipality mayor Abdul Quader Mirza and former mayor of Companiganj upazila Mizanur Rahman Badal around 10pm on Tuesday.
