Covid-19 in Bangladesh: New deaths 10, cases 540

Ten more people died from coronavirus in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 8,451.

During the period, 540 more people were diagnosed with the virus, raising the total infection to 5,49,724, the Directorate General of Health Services said in a press release on Saturday.

Of the total patients, 5,01,966 recovered, with 822 made recovery in the last 24 hours.

The daily count came from test of 13,082 samples in the past day. With this, a total of 41,31,113 samples have, so far, been tested.

Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8. Since then the country has been struggling to limit spread of the highly contagious virus.

Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to newer countries and territories.

Till date, the epidemic infected 116,753,550 people and killed 2,593,707 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 92,352,970 across the world.
