Journalist Probir on 3-day remand

A Faridpur court on Tuesday put journalist Probir Sikdar on a three-day remand in a case filed under under the Information and Communication Technology (amendment) Act 2013.

He stands accused for ‘libel’ against LGRD Minister Khandker Musharraf Hossain by a post on the Facebook.

Judge Md Hamidul Haque of the Faridpur Cognisance Court gave the order on Tuesday after police sought a 10-day remand.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Hamidul Islam in Faridpur granted the remand after he was produced before the court around 9:00am.

Earlier, members of the Detective Branch of police picked up Probir Sikdar, the owner of online newspaper ‘Uttaradhikar Ekattor News’, from his Indira Road office in the capital on Sunday evening.
