Its self defense not crossfire: DMP Commissioner

Amid criticism about crossfire across the country Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia on Wednesday said police never killed anyone intentionally in the name of crossfire, but to save themselves from the bullets fired by the criminal.

There is propaganda that police killed innocent people by crossfire which is completely wrong, he said in a traffic awareness program organized by DMP at city’s Gabtoli bus terminal in the noon.

Police’s main duty to arrest and submit the criminal and accused to the court for judgment, but when police miscreants carried out attacks on police, they have to open fire to save themselves, he said.

The DMP Commissioner also said when police forced to open fire to save life then miscreants may wound or death, so it is not crossfire but self defense.
