ULAB student's death after rape: Prime accused confesses
Murtaza Rayhan Chowdhury, the prime accused in the case filed over the death of a student of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh after rape, has confessed to his crime.
He gave his confessional statement before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Styabrata Shikder on Saturday, confirmed Faruk Hossain, assistant sub-inspector of Mohammadpur Police Station, Dhaka.
After recording his statement, the court ordered to send him to jail, he said.
The court also ordered to send another accused Nuhat Alam Tafseer to jail after he was produced before the court, the ASI added.
Earlier on January 31, the court placed Rayhan and Tafseer on five days remand each in the case.
The same court on Friday granted five days remand against Neha, an accused of the case, after a hearing. She was arrested from a house in Azimpur area of the capital on Thursday night.
On Thursday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khair Jessy shew Shafayat Jamil, 22, arrested in the case and sent him to jail after he surrendered before the court and sought bail.
The victim's father lodged a case with Mohammadpur Police Station on January 31, accusing four people of killing his daughter after rape. An unidentified person was also made accused in the lawsuit.
The case statement said Rayhan took the private university student to his friend Arafat's home from Mirpur on January 28, and from there the trio went to a restaurant in Uttara area where Neha and her a peer were waiting for them. The accused forcefully made the girl drink excessive liquor.
Then Rayhan took her to Nuhat's home in Mohammadpur area on pretext of reaching her the home of her a friend after she fell sick at one stage of drinking alcohol. He raped her there. During the act, his friends were present there.
After rape, she again fell sick and started vomiting. She was first taken to Ibn Sina Hospital and later admitted at Anwer Khan Modern Medical College Hospital where she died, according to the case statement.
