Covid-19 in Bangladesh: New deaths 12, cases 525

Twelve more people died from coronavirus in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 8,149.

During the period, 525 more people were diagnosed with the virus, raising the total infection to 5,36,107, the Directorate General of Health Services said in a press release on Tuesday.

Of the total patients, 4,80,728 recovered, with 512 made recovery in the last 24 hours.

The daily count came from test of 14,452 samples in the past day. With this, a total of 36,78,149 samples have, so far, been tested.

Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8. Since then the country has been struggling to limit spread of the highly contagious virus.

Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to newer countries and territories.

Till date, the epidemic infected 103,996,175 people and killed 2,249,541 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 75,841,243 across the world.
