Mahbub Talukder terms CCC polls model of election irregularities

Expressing his dissatisfaction about the Chattogram City Corporation polls, Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukder has termed it a model of election irregularities.

He said, "The CCC election is a model of election irregularities. If this model is followed in the next elections, we cannot maintain our self esteem in the world arena as a democratic state."

"We want to join the journey of democracy by establishing all the elections in a proper dignity," he said while briefing reporters at his office at Nirbachan Bhaban on Thursday.

About 22.50 per cent votters turnout in CCC polls, he said if a free, neutral, lawful and acceptable election had been taken place in a fair environment, the same would have been much more.

"We cannot hold an acceptable election in span of 50 years of the indepence, it cannot be accepted," he added.

The election commission said the incidents of violence, occupying polling centers, and vandalizing police vehicles and EVMs tarnished the CCC polls.

"We have to find a path of holding a fair election to stop this sort of rampage. But it can only be possible if a change is brought in the election process," he added.
