Bank account of tk 10: farmers face endless problem
Though government has goodwill to help the root level farmers through direct crops buying systems but the banks officials of Kurigram district die hard to foil the efforts.
Recently government has decided to buy crops from the farmers directly and to pay the selling price through bank accounts to erase the middleman system from the crops buying process which will help the farmers to eradicate their miseries and losses what they faced in the past years by selling crops through middleman.
Farmers of the Northern Region exerted themselves to cope with the government rules and tried to open bank accounts in exchange of tk 10 but officials of different state banks of Kurigram district didn’t show any passion to the farmers in this regards.
Farmers alleged that bank officials used to maltreat to then while they went to banks for opening the accounts.
Sometimes the officials demanded extra fees or illegal gratification to open the bank account insist of tk 10.
Suvash Chandra, a farmer from Ghogadhoha union in Sadar upazila of Kurigram district said that he has gone in a local bank to open his account four days ago and took a bank account opening form but last three days he couldn’t able to open his account yet.
Some other farmers of the area also attuned with Suvash by saying that officials sometimes demanded tk 100 to 200 extra to open single account.
Besides, Sonali Bank and Agrani Bank have declared to start their works after Eid.
Nabibur Rahman, Assistant General Manager of Kurigram Jonata Bank branch has denied the allegation of charging extra fees from the poor farmers.
