Suicide after rape: Man gets 42 yrs jail

A tribunal in Joypurhat on Thursday convicted a man and sentenced him to 42 years imprisonment for raping a 13-year-old girl that led her to commit suicide. 

The district Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal judge Md Rustam Ali delivered the verdict against Masud Rana, a resident of Haripur Uttarpara village in Sadar upazila of the district, confirmed prosecution lawyer advocate Nripendranath Mondal.

The case statement said Masud raped Khadiza Begum, a resident of the same village, in a jute field beside the victim's home on June 30, 2012.

Two days after the incident, she on July 2 killed herself by taking poison. 

On the following day, the victim's father Helaluddin filed a case with Sadar Police Station in this connection.
