3 killed in Rangamati bailey bridge collapse

Three people were killed as a stone-laden truck plunged into a ditch on Rangamati-Khagrachhari road at Kutubchhari area in Rangamati sadar upazila following collapse of a bailey bridge early Tuesday.

Identities of the deceased could not be known immediately. 

Road communication from Rangamati to Khagrachhari was suspended after the accident.  

Kabir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said the accident took place when the truck was crossing the bridge. Three people died on the spot.

“On information, we rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies of three people,” said Ratan Kumar Nath, Deputy Director of Rangamati Fire Service.

When contacted, Shah Arefin, Executive Engineer of Rajshahi road division, said the bridge collapsed due to the overloaded truck.
