Govt to procure 1 lakh MT non basmati, 50,000 MT atap rice from India
The government on Wednesday approved a proposal in principle to procure one lakh metric tons of non basmati rice and another 50,000 metric tons of atap rice on urgent G to G basis from India.
The approval came from the first meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs in this year held virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.
Briefing reporters virtually after the meeting, Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Dr Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal said that such quantity of rice would be procured by the Directorate General of Food on G to G basis from National Agriculture Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (NAFED).
The day’s meeting approved another proposal in principle from the Medical Education and Family Welfare Division for procuring equipments, medicines, other materials and services on urgent basis for rendering treatment facilities to the COVID-19 patients at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Direct Procurement Method (DPM) with a cost of around Taka 10.26 crore.-BSS
