Jubo League leader shot dead on way to mosque

A local Jubo League leader has been shot dead in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar district on his way to mosque to perform Fazr prayers.

Deceased Mohammad Usman Sikder, 35, was organizing secretary of Sabrang Union unit Jubo League, and resident of Kachubonia village in the upazila.

Sabrang Union Parishad chairman and upazila Jubo League general secretary Nur Hossain and upazila Chhatra League president Sultan Mahmud said Usman lodged a case with Teknaf Police Station over the incident of attacking him by two people, including former UP member and BNP leader Mohammad Abdullah alias Khulu Member's son Mohammad Shaker, for protesting an easy-bike theft.

Following filing the case, he was stopped by the duo on his way to mosque around 5:30am on Friday and shot, leaving him critically injured, they said.

He was rushed to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead, they added.

The health complex doctor Ayub Hossain said Usman Sikdar was brought as dead. The body bore three marks of bullet injuries.

Teknaf Model Police Station officer in-charge Hafizur Rahman said the accused are listed as Yaba traders, and smugglers, and they were named in several cases.
