Coronavirus cases in Bangladesh exceed 5 lakh

The number of coronavirus cases surpassed 5 lakh in Bangladesh on Sunday, with 1,153 fresh infections were recorded in the last 24 hours. 

To date, the total number of the virus cases reached 5,00,713, the Directorate General of Health Services said in a press release.

However, 38 more people died from the deadly virus in the past day, taking the death toll to 7,280.

Of the total patients, 4,37,527 recovered, with 1,926 made recovery in the last 24 hours.

The daily count came from test of 13,316 samples in the past day. With this, total sample test stood at 30,75,680.

Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8. Since then the country has been struggling to limit spread of the highly contagious virus.

Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to newer countries and territories.

As of Sunday, the epidemic infected 76,703,623 people and killed 1,693,585 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 53,823,003 across the world.
