Bus-train collision kills 12 in Joypurhat

Twelve people were killed and three others injured in a collision between a bus and a train at Puranapail rail gate in Joypurhat sadar upazila early Saturday. 

Six of the deceased were identified as bus driver Mamunur Rashid, of Harail village of Joypurhat sadar upazila, Ramjan, son of Manik, of Hichmi village, Sarwar Hossen, of Atul village in Panchbibi upazila, Saju Miah, son of Dudu Kazi, of Chakbila village in Akkelpur upazila and Babu, of Bijoykandi village in Naogaon. 

The injured people are Farukh Hossen, of Panchbibi upazila Jia, son of Sirajul Islam and Shukur Ali Julhas, of Matikata village in Tangail. 

The rail communication between north region and others parts of the country remained suspended after the incident.

According to the witnesses, the accident took place around 7 am when the Rajshahi-bound ‘Uttara’ Mail train from Parbatipur hit the Hili-bound bus, leaving ten people dead on the spot and five others injured.

Hearing the news, fire service members of Joypurhat and Panchbibi upazila rushed to the spot and sent the injured to Joypurhat Zilla Adhunik Hospital.

Saiful Islam, Resident physician of the hospital, said 10 bodies were kept at the hospital morgue. Apart from, two of five people died on the way to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical Hospital.
