Bangabandhu's sculpture vandalized

The miscreants have vandalized an under-construction sculpture of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Kushtia district town.

They broke the portions of face and hands of the sculpture, said superintendent of Kushtia Police SM Tanveer Arafat. 

SP Arafat said, "Two people were seen in CCTV footgae of the spot vandalizing the sculpture around 2am. Now police are trying to identify the offenders."

The attack came in a time when the country's Islamist parties, particularly Hefazat-e-Islam, have been protesting at the construction of Bangabandhu's sculpture and any other one.

The vandalizm sparked huge reaction across the district. Protesting at the incident, the leaders and activists of the district Sramik League staged demonstration at the premises of the sculpture on Saturday.

Kushtia municipality this month decided to construction three sculptures of Bangabandhu at five street intersection in own finance on the occasion of Bangabandhu's birth centenary.
