Four BSMMU doctors sued over patient's death

Four doctors of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University have been accused in a case filed over the death of a patient.

They are: the hospital Urology dept prof Dr Md Habibur Rahman Dulal, 55, the same dept associate prof Md Faruque Hossain, 48, its physicians Md Mostafa Kamal, 46, and Al Mamun, 33.

Md Rafique Sikder, son of the deceased, Rawshan Ara, 55, lodged the case with Shahbagh Police Station on Friday. On the day, court accepted the case as statement.

The case statement said the woman died while undergoing treatment at BSMMU on October 31, 2018. The deceased's son filed the case following he received autopsy report two years after the death.

In the report, the experts mentioned Rawshan died because her all organs damaged, and both of her kidneys were removed surgically.

Meanwhile, her son Rafique filed a general diary with the same police station on November 1, 2018, a day after her death.

According to the GD, Rawshan was admitted to the Urology dept of BSMMU on July 1, 2018. On July 15, the dept prof Dr Habibur discharged her from the hospital.

On August 12 of the year, a report conducted by Bangladesh Automic Energy Commission advised by Habibur said the woman's right kidney was completely normal, and both kidneys were in separate position, the GD said.

Later on August 27 of the year, BSMMU doctor Syed Sultan advised the patient to have operation of left defunt kidney but both of her kidneys were found normal in different tests conducted in suggestion of Dr Habibur.

On August 5, 2018, Dr Habibur asked Rawshan to have operation for removing her left kidney. The operation was conducted by the four accused.

Doctors asked to shift her to the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital following her condition deteriorated after operation but she was taken to Insaf Barakah Kidney and General Hospital, Mogbazar, as no empty seat was in BSMMU ICU.

On August 6, prof Dr Fakhrul Islam of the hospital diagnosing Rawshan said that she had no both kidneys.
