Housewife 'burned alive' in Tangail

A housewife has been set ablaze allegedly by her in-laws in Nagarpur upazila of Tangail district.

The victim, Rozina Akter, 21, was the wife of Md Joynal Abedin, a resident of Mirkutia village in the upazila.

Family sources said Rozina sustained burn injuries in her laws' house around 10pm on Friday. She was first taken to Tangail General Hospital and from there she was referred to Dhaka for better treatment but she died on the way.

Rozina's elder sister Honufa Akter said Joynal and his family members had been created pressure on Rozina for dowry since their marriage around four years ago.

"On Friday night, my sister was burned alive in a planned way," she alleged.

Nagarpur Police Station officer in-charge Alam Chand said they detained the victim's husband to interrogate in the incident.

The body, however, was sent to Tangail General Hospital morgue.
