Eden ex-principal murder: 2 housemaids sentenced to death
A Dhaka tribunal has sentenced two housemaids to death in a case filed for the murder of former principal of Eden Mohila College Mahfuza Chowdhury Parvin.
Judge Abu Jafar Md Kamruzzaman of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 passed the order on Sunday.
The death-row convicts are Ruma alias Reshma and Rita Akhter alias Swapna.
On 10 February last year, police recovered the body of Mahfuza from her apartment at Sukanya Tower at Elephant Road.
Later, her husband Ismat Quadir Gama, vice-chairman of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad, filed a case with New Market police station on Monday accusing Reshma and Swapna.
On July 21, Sub-Inspector of New Market Police Station Alamgir Hossain Majumdar, also the investigation officer of the case, filed charge-sheet against Reshma and Swapna.
The court on February 9, 2020, framed charges against the two accused.
Earlier on September 30, both the prosecution and defence concluded their closing arguments in the case.
